Knight Rider KITT gets stolen during publicity event

@ 2008/09/18
The car was being unloaded from its transport trailer for a crowd of onlookers. When its handler turned her back for a moment, a man darts from the median, jumps into the still-running ride, and peels off heading East on Front Street.

In the video, you see the security team member wheel the new KITT off the flatbed truck and then exit the car (still running) to return to the truck. With the door still open, some impulsive car thief ran out and hopped in the car and took off.

That's the new KITT?? The double wings make it look like just another cheap racer, kills the rest of the look IMO.

I like the Ford GTs, but it's too big a change to be as 'charming' as the previous one

for the new series starting soon (without David)

mmm, must be a new KITT, cos it doesn't resemble the original one driven by David Hasselhoff and which I have seen some (prolly 10) years ago for real (some british guy has been collecting alot of movie-vehicles).

And yeah, me thinks it's PR stunt too, but I don't see how this could be publicity.

it's a her

Most likely PR... car haulers don't leave cars sitting running while they get into their truck to drive off... no reason to leave it running and no reason for him to get back into his truck unless he was leaving... just a PR stunt I'm sure.

The original KITT wouldn't have let it happen.

that one site is saying it a PR stunt; while others keep at it that it is real

Really stolen or just a marketing idea?

Quote:
Wednesday, the network producing the show revealed the car had been "KITTnapped" as part of a "unique viewer engagement promotion" in which one fan will win a new Ford Mustang.

E! said in a statement: "Friday, the final day of KITT's celebrity tour, crowds of Knight Rider enthusiasts were left stunned when a man ran out of the crowd, dove into KITT and screeched off. Intense speculation spread across news outlets and viral communities promoted by links to YouTube with audience cell phone footage of the "KITTnapping" action. Now E! is looking for help to find KITT."
