City of Rio Rancho, in Collaboration With Intel and Usurf Communications, to Establish Historic Technological Precedent - High Speed Wireless Service Will Cover 103 Square Miles

RIO RANCHO, N.M., Jun 16, 2004 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- On June 26, 2004, the City of Rio Rancho, in collaboration with Intel Corporation (INTC) and Usurf Communications, Inc., a division of Usurf America, Inc. (USUR) will launch one of the largest Wi-Fi Hotspots in the world to date, which will cover 103 square miles. Boasting technology designed to bring unprecedented high-speed wireless data access to 58,000 residents and hundreds of business, government and civic organizations, this first, border-to-border, citywide Wi-Fi hotspot marks the beginning of an era for the City that has been self-christened "Your Wireless Window to the World."

To commemorate this historic technological achievement, City, State and partner corporate officials invite the public and the press to a major celebration. Enjoy free food and beverages, live entertainment and promotional items. In addition, Usurf's Wi-Fi system demonstrations and subscription services, as well as vendors offering discounted wireless products, will be situated at booths found in the main tent.

Reporters/media representatives can pre-schedule technology demonstrations and face-to-face interviews by contacting Peggy McCarthy at the City of Rio Rancho at 505-891-5002 or via email at pmccarthy@ci.rio-rancho.nm.us. You may also visit www.rioranchowireless.com for more information.

Beware of this technology; I could see Wi-Fi be widely used internationally in a couple of years eliminating DSL, Cable, router and maintenance cost currently. Intel is planting a good seed in this area.
