The AMCC/3Ware 9500S-4LP is certainly an evolutionary product in the line of Escalade cards. While keeping the same basic prices as their last generation 8506 family, they’ve managed to add RAID-50 support, 64-bit LBA support (allowing the drive to scale to up to 3 terabytes if necessary), and 128MB of SDRAM cache memory to the mix. They’ve also thrown on the first working power/signal indicator LED indicator lights, and made the card a little more tweakable and easier to manage with variable RAID-5 stripe sizes and their new 3DM2 software set. On features alone, the new 3Ware 9500S-4LP is a great deal in comparison to their last versions.
