OCZ to introduce affordable SSD

@ 2008/06/29
We just heard that in the next few days OCZ plans to introduce a new line of very fast and affordable SSD drives in 32, 64 and 128 GB capacities. The 32GB drive is already listed in German e-tail for €149, the 64GB has a really attractive price of €229, while the big 128GB drive will set you back €399.99.

Actually I think it is better over the Velociraptor, too.

If the quoted figures are true (read speed between 120 and 143MB/s, write speed between 80 to 93MB/s) the SSD exceeds the Velociraptor's average read speed (~ 102MB/s).

The average write speed of the Velociraptor is ~ 101Mb/s. However, this is not consistent, as the minimum write speed falls as low as 77MB/s. SSDs don't suffer from radial disk distance, so the OCZ's quoted figures will be consistently available.

An OS drive doesn't require large writes anyway. Combine that with the near instant access time of the SSD and you have a better OS drive than the VelociRaptor!

P.S. And it will cost you less to get this increase in performance.

power usage: yes
noise: yes

performance: nope

Better choice over WD Raptor?

Finally!

If these prices are true, I'm getting the 32GB one, to have the OS running off it.
