NVIDIA nForce 790i Ultra SLI chipset - ASUS Striker II Extreme motherboard review

@ 2008/03/18
Easily the biggest change to the nForce 790i chipset however is with regards to memory support, with DDR2 jettisoned from this chipset in lieu of the newer DDR3 standard. While this may disappoint those currently enjoying the almost ridiculous bargain prices of DDR2, it seems safe to assume that DDR3 prices will (and indeed are) begin to drop slowly, making it a more attractive proposition over time. While the standard nForce 790i SLI supports memory speeds of up to 1333MHz, the 790i Ultra SLI can make use of speeds up to 2000MHz. This can be achieved via a new generation of NVIDIA's 'SLI Memory' scheme, first seen with DDR2 modules and the nForce 680i chipset.
