Samsung puts 100 MB/s SSDs into mass production

@ 2008/02/15
Samsung said it has begun mass producing 64 GB solid state disk drives (SSDs) with a 3 Gb/s SATA II interface.

According to the manufacturer, the new drives are about 60% faster than the SATA I generation and reach data read speeds of up to 100 MB/s and 80 GB/s in write processes. Power consumption remains at a level of 1.45 watts, which compares to about 2 watts of 1.8” hard drives.

32gb is enough for system, data on remote storage

When mass production starts, prices are bound to drop to affordable (<300 euro) levels within a year or so.

32GB SSD is not enough, but I can live with 'only' 64GB SSD. : )

only if prices come down harsh

loudest source of noise in my test system is now the HDD, a silent Seagate in a Scythe Quiet Drive. Everything passively cooled, single 120mm @ 5v, dead quiet at 20cm

Greatest evolution since dual core processors.
