8800GT 256MB expected to cost $179 to $199

This is the card that Nvidia plans to fight the RV670XT and RV670pro. The real catch is that 8800GT 256MB will have the same clocks, just less memory and obviously in most cases will be just as fast as the 8800GT 512MB.

The card might be limited in super high settings and resolutions but an average player won’t notice much difference. Nvidia wants to earn some money with €250+ cards, especially in Europe and after the Halo effect, it will just release the 8800GT 256MB and sell it cheaper.

Might be lucky to see prices drop very much, with the Q6600 example demand was pretty high and kept prices up there, but the 8800GT is a much more compelling upgrade... I suspect it will quickly become a popular card to SLI as well. Despite what Anandtech may say I will believe a $200 512mb 8800GT when I see it, and I don't think that will happen before Xmas if it does.

This is interesting though... does this mean Zotac builds their own cards?

May see $150 price tag before X'mas.
