MSI K9A2 Platinum (RD790) supports 4-Way Crossfire

The K9A2 Platinum is based on the AMD RD790/790FX chipset and has 4 PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots and supports Crossfire X aka QuadFire aka Double Crossfire. It comes with supports for the new AMD Phenom CPU based on AM2+ socket. This is the AMD’s answer to the Intel X38 which comes with similar PCI Express features. AMD uses DDR2 with speeds up to 1066Mhz.

Onboard you’ll find Gigabit Ethernet provided by Realtek, High Def Audio 7.1 (also Realtek), no less than 10 USB 2.0 ports, a Firewire port and 6 SATA 3Gbps ports and two eSATA ports. The Southbridge is the older ATI SB600 which supports single IDE channel. For the CPU there’s a five phase power circuit to provide stable voltage, the extra connectors for power are in between the heat pipes of the Northbridge cooling. Other special features are SAS, which makes the motherboard an excellent workstation solution

The MSI K9A2 Platinum will be available around the middle of November. The expected end-user price will be around 179 euro.
