Voodoo makes Crossfire work on SLI Motherboard

@ 2007/09/07
THERE'S PLENTY of news about HP's new Voodoo-inspired gaming machine, the Blackbird. Indeed, our own Charlie pondered its existence just yesterday. However, he missed one thing - the fact that the Blackbird runs Crossfire on an Nvidia chipset motherboard.

interesting, what's keeping people back from using CF on retail Striker 680i boards?

Well, here's the word:

Quote:
DailyTech contacted Raul Sood and he had this to say about the Blackbird 002’s SLI and CrossFire capability, “It's not a licensing thing... We don’t need to license Crossfire from AMD. Let's just say we figured it out, and we're making it work. On Blackbird you can download ANY Catalyst driver and Crossfire will work. This is our customer promise, user agnostic upgrades.” When DailyTech asked Sood what mainboard the system uses he replied, “It's a standard Asus STRIKER motherboard.”
Intriguing...

When they do this it is usually a bad thing, very infrequent updates if at all, and can't update drivers to fix the latest Xfire or SLI bug in the latest greatest game, etc.

Nice wiki, I did not know about most of those INQ nicknames.

By the way it's CustomPC...

Are they making fun of the magazine?

Aren't they any legal issues with this SI/Crossfire thing?

Hmm, does it really? Can they actually do this in hardware without resorting to a software hack? Otherwise soon as someone installs updated drivers they could be in for a rude surprise.
