UMC Plans to Manufacture Central Processing Units

United Microelectronics Corp., a contract semiconductor manufacturer from
Taiwan, plans to start producing central processing units using 45nm and 65nm process technologies. Even though it is unclear who may be interested in producing central processing units at UMC, the company claims it is negotiating with potential client.

Could this be what NVIDIA needed help from Intel on? Combating in the CPU market is obviously not an option, but this actually sounds possibly like NVIDIA's version of Intel's CPU/GPU Nehalem variants and AMD's Fusion.

If not then NVIDIA still has to find a way to combat them or suffer losses in the lower GPU segments, so this sounds likely.
