Intel Attacks AMD with Massive Price Drop on Microprocessors

@ 2007/04/26
The price slashes vary from 6% to 40% depending on the processor model, but the most remarkable drops can be noticed in Core 2 family of microprocessors. After the price slash of 38%, Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor now costs $530, a much lower price-point than $851, making microprocessors with four processing engines far more affordable for general public. The cheapest Core 2 Duo, the model E4300, now costs $113, whereas the highest-performing part is now priced at $316 in 1000-unit quantities, 40% lower than before.

I hope AMD isn't going to be so foolish to drop their prices too. Intel still can drop their prices and they can miss the extra profit, but AMD can't. I think they should now start to focus on the new CPU and start hoping it's going to be a C2D killer (tough I doubt this will happen).

No need for concern here, unless you bought AMD stock at $40 and still own it. AMD made a series of mistake; and they continue to do so.

Intel stock is not doing any better despite good earning at a much lesser gross margin which investors don't like. Regaining SOM is one thing, ROI is quite another.

If AMD can't get new money, there will be suitors (except Intel). Either way, AMD stock will appreciate at that time.

I am seriously concerned about the future of AMD and thus ATI. This is terrible for the consumer. We would not have these awesome cheap C2Ds today if not for the past recent successes of AMD (which is now, of course, ancient history).
