More Vista Activation Woes . .

Activate Vista, loose XP key... or license? OC.com has an editorial on it

"Just more crap to worry about with these great 'buy xp now, get vista later' deal. If you choose to purchase an upgrade version of Windows Vista to upgrade XP, you will no longer be able to use that version of XP, neither on another system, nor as a dual-boot option. The key will be invalidated, preventing activation.

Thurrot posted a work-around that advises users not to enter the product key first time around when installing with an upgrade CD. This will get the OS onto the system.

Users then have to run the installation file again from within Windows Vista, enter the registration key and essentially upgrade the Windows Vista installation with another Vista installation.

I'd expect this kind of workaround be accessible at MS website.
