Intel Virtually Confirms Development of Standalone Graphics Chips

Intel Corp., the world’s No. 1 producer of x86 microprocessors and chipsets, has virtually confirmed its intention to enter the business of high-end graphics processors for standalone add-in graphics adapters. The establishment of visual computing groups at Intel essentially backs up rumours about Intel’s come back to discrete graphics business.

It would be interesting to run the 90 nm factories for GPUs because they are already written off with the CPU production, so the costs would be low.

well, you dont just enter the graphics market by pulling a supposed highend chip out of your ***

sure, they've got Intel Integrated crap, but that is a loooooong way from the highend. i doubt their first generation of highend chips will get anywhere near ATI and Nvidia.

still, more competition is only better for all of us, so i can only cheer.

3-Way GPU battle between Intel, NVIDIA and AMD/ATI? Looking forward to it... unless Intel decides to be more like S3, and flying under the high end radar
