Holiday gaming sales figures released. Is there a clear winner

@ 2007/01/13
The December 2006 numbers from market-research firm NPD say a lot of things about the gaming industry, but the overall message is that consumers bought a lot of gaming products, with sales up 19 percent over December 2005. While some may have expected lower sales for a hardware transition year, it's clear that the demand for games and systems is as high as it has ever been. Of course, that's not the story everyone wants to hear about; the real issue is which next-gen console came out of the gate with the strongest holiday season. The answer isn't surprising: the 360 was the fastest mover with 1.1 million units sold in December. The 360 had the inventory, the game library, and the online killer app in Gears of War to get customers to hand over their money.
