Seagate Launches Maxtor Drives, Revamps Brand

@ 2006/10/02
Seagate launched a higher-end version of its DiamondMax 3.5-inch hard drive line, as well as the MobileMax drives. The DiamondMax drives, for now, top out at 320 Gbytes, while the MobileMax drives range upwards to 80 Gbytes.

If that sounds a bit low, it's not surprising, said Marc Jourlait, Seagate's vice president of segment marketing. The Seagate brand will remain the "Lexus" brand to Maxtor's Toyota, reserving the highest capacity points, longest warranties, and newest technologies, he said. From a capacity standpoint, the new DiamondMax drives are roughly half the capacity of the Seagate Barracuda, which tops out at 750 Gbytes.
