Tech Bits: AMD AM2 worth it?

@ 2006/09/20
By now, many of you have heard of the new AMD socket AM2 chips. The
question that comes to mind is, is it any different from the “old”
socket 939 chip? AMD touts this as a major technological breakthrough.
Let's take a look and see if it's all talk or there's something to back
that claim up.

A hot dual core, almost worthless in single core applications. And tell me different, but there aren't many real and effective dual core applications

At the moment intel doesn't have any decent products for the budget (<200) segment.

Soon there will be Core 2 Solo, and this should make some bigger changes for the masses. I think.

It's not whitout the reason that Dell made some large business agreements with AMD

those a singlecores, Intels answer to those is the P4D 805

AM2 has a very decent price/quality rating.

Where the cheapest core2 starts just below 200 euro, the cheapest AM2 sempron can be found priced at ~60 euro, the AM2 A64 at ~ 90 euro (3500+).

This still beats any other then Core 2 products that Intel has...

a little late now that the X2 get annihilated by Core 2
