Interview of the "Killer" Network Card

@ 2006/08/07
Bigfoot Networks is dedicated to fighting Lag in online games, which we define as anything bad that happens in a game that is out of the gamer’s control. This could be their screen freezing, players jumping around on the screen, losing your connection to the game server, slow responses from the server, etc… Ping improvements can help all of these things, but is not the only feature of Killer.

Yeah, it sounds like a pretty cool idea, but you could chuck an extra $280 on top of what you were originally willing to pay for a CPU, get a better CPU and just not worry about the extra overhead incurred by network traffic. That just strikes me as better solution since you could get increased performance in everything, instead of just network i/o. But being able to run linux on a NIC is pretty damn cool though.

280, they really blasted any expectations with this price

for a darn network card, NVIDIA nForce4/5 has onboard network card which can do mostly the same "prioritizing" network traffic. Anyway, a cheapo 3COM 3C905B will suffice for any "gamer"; your lag is created by internet routes not by your local network card. Come on now, $280 for a networkcard ... that's more than a speedy graphics card
