Intel Core 2 Extreme @ 3.6Ghz is faster than 3Ghz Athlon FX-62

@ 2006/08/02
One has been a star for some time now, while the other is rising to stardom. The AMD Athlon 64 FX-62 and the Intel Core 2 Extreme are ready to duke it out for honours as the fastest of all x86 systems. Let's get on with our contest, and pitch the old champion against a new one.

absolute stupidity, who even thinks up these things at tom's hardware????

seriously though, what a waste of effort and resources by Tomshardware, there are plenty of interesting tests I can come up for the new Core 2 and the older Athlon X2, doing a small overclock and comparing them AGAIN is not one of them...

The outcome of this test done by Tomshardware is way beyond a simple DUUH, it's a whole new dimension of unsurprising benchmark comparisons. So if a stock running Core 2 Extreme @ 2.93GHz is faster than an FX-62 at 2.8Ghz, would a Core 2 @ 3.6Ghz (+600Mhz) still be faster if we overclock the Athlon to 3Ghz (+200Mhz)?

Find out now in this rather pointless comparison!
