nVidia 7900GTX versus Overclocked 7800GTX 512Mb

@ 2006/04/03
A small yet cool comparison of these two cards running both at the same speed; the 7800GTX was voltmodded and the BIOS tweaked to allow it to run at 650Mhz core speed and 850Mhz memory. It was then benchmarked against a 7900GTX running at the same speed. Tests were done both in Single card as in SLI mode. -- click read more to go to the remote link or hit "comments" to see the results straight away.

it's certainly worthy for those who already paid $500+ for a 7800GTX 512Mb and want to up the performance on par with the 7900GTX. Unless you like to loose money of course

the smaller process and thus lower power consumpiton and heat are way too big pluspoints for the 7900 to make such a compare worth anything

not that I know (benches part), the test is interesting though to see that the reduction in process and increase in clock speeds were the only changes between the 7800 and 7900, no other changes at first sight, which impact performance;

the 7900 has the advantage of course due to its lower heat output. and the 7900GT can soar over 800Mhz with a small voltmod and on aircooling!

but not at those clockspeeds

he had 7800GTX 256Mb version afaik
