It does not wreck your eyes

POCO’s Pro 5G fixes a problem with OLED which no-one in the industry seems to want to talk about – it screws up your eyesight.

While the big names in the mobile industry have moved to OLED as the next big thing (cough Apple) no one seems concerned about the dangers the screen does to your eyes.

OLED means that each pixel can only be turned on or off, making it difficult to adjust the brightness individually. To change the screen brightness, a PWM dimming mode is used.

PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) dimming alternately blinks the display with a “on → off → on → off” frequence over a short period. By adjusting the “on” and “off” time ratio, and using the visual residual of the human eye, it adjusts the screen brightness from 0% to 100%. For example, the screen is on all the time when the brightness is 100%, and when the brightness is 50%, as long as the screen is off half of the time, our human eyes will mistakenly think that the screen brightness has decreased.
