Samsung's in-house chipmaking gaining momentum

New division formed to make its own chips

While Samsung's flagships has been largely dependent on Qualcomm chips, and its new*Galaxy S23 series is expected to arrive with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor on board, it appears that the company wants to create its own smartphone silicon.

Samsung has quietly formed an application processor development team within the company’s mobile experience (MX) business. This division is responsible for running the company’s smartphone operations.*The team is being led by executive vice-president Choi Won-joon. Choi joined Samsung from chipmaker Qualcomm in 2016.
