Windows 11 losing gamers

At least on Steam

The latest Steam Hardware and Software Survey results show that Windows 11 experienced a 0.11 per cent decline in its Steam market share, going from 21.23 to 21.12 per cent.

This is the first time that Windows 11 has lost gamers on Steam instead of gaining them and would be rather bad news for Microsoft, if those gamers had not just been rolling back to Windows 10.

Apparently Windows 10 has increased its Steam market shares by 1.91 per cent in the same month. This would imply that the OS managed to scoop up the ones who jumped ship from Windows 11. Fortunately they were not going back in time further because Windows 8.1 or Windows 7, lost market share last month. Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit) losing an entire percentage point with the 64-bit version of the aging OS accounting for a full 0.97 per cent.

In some ways the news is good for Microsoft which has been trying to get people off older versions of its operating system, but it would appear that there is something in Windows 11 which does not appeal to gamers.
