ATI Intros Radeon X1600 for Professionals on the Run

ATI Technologies on Tuesday officially introduced its first workstation flavour of the whole Radeon X1000 family, the Mobility FireGL V5200, which will power Lenovo ThinkPad T60p laptop that is set to be available in the Q2 2006.

“The Mobility FireGL V5200 combines ATI’s leading expertise in mobile technologies, including power management, performance and image quality with our extensive knowledge in the workstation market to give 3D professionals a compelling mobile workstation solution with the Lenovo ThinkPad T60p,” said Dinesh Sharma, director, workstation products, ATI.

The Mobility FireGL V5200 256MB sports 12 pixel shader processors, 5 vertex shader processors and 4 texture mapping units (TMUs). Clock-speeds of the Mobility FireGL V5200 are unclear, but its brother Mobility Radeon X1600 with 128MB GDDR3 memory operates at 209MHz/270MHz (core/memory) clock-speeds in 2D mode and at 473/936MHz (core/memory) in 3D mode, according to ATI.

The new professional graphics accelerator from ATI is certified for all the leading professional 3D applications such as AutoCAD, Catia, ICEM Surf, SolidWorks, 3dsmax, Maya and Softimage/XSI.

All FireGL products come with a three-year warranty and direct access to a dedicated workstation technical support team.

I just ordered a Macbook Pro with an X1600... I asume it's good enough for some basic (mac) gaming.
