ATI's New Leader in Graphics Performance: The Radeon X1900 Series

@ 2006/01/27
The numbers really do speak for themselves: the X1900XTX is an incredible part. In the end, the difference in performance between the X1900XT and XTX versions was so small that it's hard for us to see how anyone could justify spending another hundred dollars to have someone at a factory eke out that extra little bit of performance. ATI's justification for the X1900 XTX is that it is a pre-overclocked X1900 XT with a $100 manufacturers stamp of approval.

Anandtech CPU <> GPU limit

Battlefield 2: GPU limited (max graphical detail = ~60FPS at 1280x????)
Black & White 2: GPU limited (max detail = ~30FPS at 1280x????)
Day of Defeat: GPU limited (they say CPU... but look at the score 77/54/40/35FPS scales resolution)
FarCry: GPU limit (max detail = ~36FPS at 1280x????)
FEAR: GPU limit (max detail = ~70FPS at 1280x???? .. scales 70/50/38/36)
SplinterCell: GPU (74/57/43/38)
Quake 4: GPU (73/58/45/42)

where is that CPU limited game?

I give you one: www.liveforspeed.net

those look like playable frame rates...

or not.

These days, we are running out of ways to push our performance tests. Plenty of games out there are CPU limited,
come again?

the BF2 test without AA even shows noticable drops in framerate, anything over 1280x???? sees frame rates which drop below 60 mark. If games are CPU limited we would not see large performance drops increasing resolutions.

increase in resolution = higher taxing on VGA

if CPU was limiting factor, FPS score would be ~ the same when increasing resolution. They just debunked their own statement with their own benchmark numbers...
