Nvidia has a 6600 shortage

YOU CAN still buy a Geforce 6600 GT and the vanilla version in stores and they are even priced reasonably, but Nvidia just cannot get enough of those chips as the sales continue to soar like a rocket. It just cannot make enough of them.
If you are an Nvidia partner you have to buy a bunch of these chips and wait for at least a few weeks before you get your order, there is a business term for this called backorder. So you have to give away your money to Nvidia and still queue for the chips as this is the only chance to get them.

Some of Nvidia partners are frustrated as they could make even more money, and take even more market share than they have, as this is a strong Nvidia momentum but hey that's just tough cheese.

Geforce 6800GS will solve some problems in the midrange plus market where you need to spend just around $249 for a card while it still won't help 6600GT market for cards around $160 or for the 6600 vanilla market that stays around $110. if you want to get even cheaper and Fly Nvidia, you can get the SLI ready 6600LE. That's just a renamed 6200 card and costs about $99 or €uroequivalent in €uroland.

If ATI is smart it will plunge into this gap and make some nice sales of its X800 or even X700 cards there, but that's up to the marketing mavens. There are some hungry companies waiting for the chips and most of them don't care whether they're selling ATI or Nvidia. They are chip atheists.
