Intel to restart production of entry-level 865GV chipset in 4Q

Intel is scheduled to restart production its entry-level 865GV chipset in the fourth quarter, as the chip giant has observed huge demand from the channel market, according to sources at Taiwan motherboard makers. In addition, the launch of Intel’s high-end 975X chipset will be pushed up from the first quarter of 2006 to the middle of this November, the sources indicated.....

In related news, a Current Analysis report stated that upcoming availabilities of a US$398 AMD notebook and a US$398 AMD desktop from Wal-Mart will help AMD be in a stronger position to compete with Intel in the fourth quarter. AMD beat Intel in the US retail PC market in October for the first time by 1.3 percentage points, following overtaking Intel in the desktop PC segment in September, the market research firm noted.
