Radeon X1800XT 512MB reviewed

@ 2005/10/05
ATI FINALLY launched its highly anticipated R520 core and it's finally ready to share the details with the world. The company had many problems and delayed this product massively but now when the cards are out things are going to get better for them.
R520 will have two variations and just as we said in our articles R520XT, Radeon X1800XT will be clocked at 625MHz core and 1500MHz memory and Radeon X1800XL clocked at 500MHz, 1000MHz. The card has sixteen pipelines or sixteen Shader cores - that's how ATI likes to call its pipes nowadays. The chip of sixteen pipelines has 321 million transistors.

ATI taped out its card back in November 2004 and it took it many re-spins to fix all that needed to be fixed. It had some transistor problem that took seven months to be fixed. The chap that fixed it got a nice big bonus, we understand.

I think the Hexus benchmarks are a bit off; nowhere else does the ATI show a large lead over nVidia; 60% of the time nVidia is on top

when is this new nvidia card available??
Comment from The Senile Doctor @ 2005/10/06
then I'd again be oldfashioned
Comment from jmke @ 2005/10/06
I sincerely do hope nVidia releases their next gen product soon

I wouldn't wait for the X1800 either doc. You've got too little time to be waiting for paper launches.

Wait any longer Nvidia's new card will be out; again ahead of ATI. I wait because I am cheap; you wait because you are such a nice/loyal friend of ATI

what floor are you talking about? from what I've seen, it performs +/- identical... costs more and is not available, can not be put into "SLI" right now

buy a 7800 GT for now ?
and lose +- 120 euro on it

stupid fukkin ati situation.

we have a card that outside of doom3/chronicles of riddick can wipe the floor with 7800gtx, (look at fear, serious sam 2, cod2) but it isn't available until november, and then some (probably).

If you ever wanna put it in crossfire mode it'll take even longer while the 7800gtx cards are readily available now...

it's such a stupid situation, I should wait, but I've been waiting for soooo long.
what's one more month?
I promised I'd get a fear-ready gamerig in the house for the brother of my ex-girlfriend the moment fear was released...

1. buy two asus gtx TOP cards now and put them in sli.=> big powerhouse
2. buy a x1800xt the moment they'tre available, whenever that's gonna be...and buy a master card to put it in crossfire whenever the hell that's gonna be=> even bigger powerhouse but when???
Comment from The Senile Doctor @ 2005/10/05

only shitty thing is that this card isn't even available yet, but it looks as if in FEAR it could compete with two 7800gtx's in sli...
