New Nvidia driver will fix over optimisation

@ 2005/08/31
NVIDIA WAS very fast to react to a story we pixellated yesterday. We wrote here about Nvidia's over optimisation. Well, as expected Nvidia said it's a bug and it could not be fixed by changing to high quality driver setting, which was the case with Geforce 6 series cards.
Nvidia claims that a new beta driver, version 78.03, will fix the problem, and the driver is already with reviewers. Nvidia will post this driver later at its nzone.com website but after it gets feedback from the reviewers. Don't you get the feeling sometimes that reviewers are the final unpaid quality check for these hardware manufacturers, but without the big salaries?

You can expect a few per cent performance decrease but it won't be even close to 30 per cent. The decrease will occur in the high quality mode, of course. Nvidia claims that it has nothing to fight, it's just a bug and nothing more.

The 78.03 driver will also fix a separate bug reported by some users. Some of them complained that certain application profile settings didn’t work. Nvidia addressed this and fixed it in its upcoming drivers. Some of our colleagues will sure provide you with some tests as we are set to be away for a gaming event in London. µ
