PlayStation 3 Production Ending Soon in Japan

@ 2017/03/21
Sony had originally declared that the PlayStation 3 would be a "ten-year console," and it looks like they weren't kidding—the system is now getting killed off after being around for just over a decade. Launching in 2006, the PS3 introduced neat features such as Blu-ray playback, but the system was difficult to develop for and initially struggled against the Xbox 360. It did, however, manage to sell and offered a substantial library of noteworthy exclusives, such as the Uncharted series. PlayStation 3 will soon end production in Japan, according to the official Japanese PlayStation website. The page for the 500-gigabyte standard model, the only remaining PlayStation 3 model in production in Japan, mentions that "shipments are scheduled to end soon." While a specific date is unknown a game shop in Kurume, Fukuoka seems to have suggested in a tweet that it received notification that production will end in March. PlayStation 3 first launched in November 2006.
