Microsoft pays IBM $775 million to settle suit@ 2005/07/01
Microsoft has already paid both Novell and Sun chunks of money based around that antitrust case. IBM was overcharged for its software.
IBM had claimed its action over pricing caused damage to its own software including the ex Lotus products Smartsuite and OS/2.
As well as paying the $775 million, Microsoft will also give IBM a $75 million software voucher for Windows and application software it will buy in the future. The Wall Street Journal estimates that so far this antitrust suit has cost Microsoft about $3 billion to settle the various actions. And there's still Europe to completely sort out, as well.
According to Microsoft, this resolves all IBM claims, except for claims to its server hardware and software. IBM, said MS, has agreed that it won't take action for server damages for two years, and won't try and recover damages on such claims incurred before the 30th of June 2002.
