Huawei has announced its newest flagship Mate 9 5.9-inch phablet which will be powered by Huawei's newest Kirin 960 SoC.

The Huawei Mate 9 is built around a 5.9-inch Full HD 1920x1080 IPS display with 2.5D glass, which leaves it with 373ppi of pixel density, and features a full-metal unibody chassis. The smartphone measures at 156.9x78.9x7.9mm (HxWxD), which makes it a bit bigger than the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

The biggest update is Huawei's own Kirin 960 SoC which is based on four Cortex-A73 and four Cortex-A54 cores in big.LITTLE configuration as well as special low-power companion i6 chips (based on ARM Cortex-M7), dealing with all always-on features. In addition to the octa-core CPU part, the Kirin 960 packs ARM's new Mali-G71 MP8 GPU which should offer both 180 percent higher performance and 20 percent better power efficiency compared to the Mali-T880.
