Geforce 6800 Ultra to be replaced with 7800 GTX

IT SEEMS THAT Nvidia has already started to educate its customers and to prepare them to transition from Geforce 6800 Ultra to Geforce 7800 GTX, we hear.
This is a natural move and no real surprises here - the older generation gets replaced by a younger one, but SLI might make things complicated. Many customers bought Geforce 6800 GT or Ultra series and it turns out that those cards are very hard to find right now.

Nvidia told us at E3 that there is a too high demand for Geforce 6800 Ultra because of SLI but in the next months those cards will get even more difficult to find. We checked a few online shops and you can still buy these cards but according to our sources this may not be for long.

Many of Nvidia customers bought SLI system with one 6800 card and were planning to upgrade to two cards within the next twelve months. I guess that many of them will just dream about upgradeable graphic or Nvidia has to consider to make this card co-exist with faster and stronger 7800 GTX , G70 cards. This never happened before, at least not to Nvidia.

So what happens if Nvidia really does phase 6800 Ultra and GT out? Many people will be very upset and disappointed but they will always have an alternative to get the card from eBay.

Nvidia has to think and be wise on this I guess. We have contacted the firm and as usual we await its response with much interest. µ
