AMD’s New Heavyweight: Opteron 275 Dual Core

For all that the Opteron has changed the scope of AMD’s presence in higher-end computing markets, the processor itself has only changed slightly in the 24 months since it debuted; only AMD’s x52 Opteron is built on 90nm and incorporates SSE3. The new dual core parts we’re examining today are not only Opteron’s first major design shift, but are also AMD’s first step into the multi-core future of computing.
