AOpen Pentium M Desktop Board Relaunched

In case you missed it, motherboard maker AOpen plans to launch its second desktop motherboard -- again -- incorporating Intel's mobile Pentium M processor on Monday.

The AOpen i915GMm-HFS was previously disclosed on AOpen's web site in mid-March. However, the board is now receiving another official launch, although it is already available for sale at some e-tailers. The release is AOpen's second, following the launch of its i855GMEm-LFS Pentium M desktop board earlier this year, around the time of the similar DFI 855GME-MGF. According to an AOpen spokeswoman, however, the board will be priced at $300, twenty dollars less than its current price. ADVERTISEMENT
The i915GMm-HFS microATX board uses the Pentium M "Dothan" processor, with either a 400-MHz or 533-MHz front-side bus. Either DDR1-333 or DDR2-533 memory can be used, up to a maximum of 2 Gbytes. As the name suggests, the board uses the i915 chipset, although only with Intel's "Extreme Graphics" integrated graphics solution.

However, the board includes a host of features, including a single DVI-I connector for home theatre systems. Also included is 1 PCI Express x16 slot, 1 X1 slot, two PCI slots, and four SATA ports, including two faster SATA connectors. A parallel ATA slot is also included. Peripheral expansions include eight USB 2.0 connections, an S/PDIF connector, and an RJ45 port. Two IEEE 1394 connectors are also included.
