Don't know the part number of the modem...

This is a router. Should be installed in between your ADSL and PC's.

I have had nothing but problems with USB ADSL modems here in Belgium, I installed ADSL for 4 months some 4.5 years ago, and then they sucked also, hasn't changed since,

I recently replaced the buggy ADSL USB modem @ my girlfriends' parents house with a RJ45 model , all the problems they were having with slow/lost connections were resolved in a flash.

you would spare yourself a lot of trouble if you went out and invested in a decent model, not USB

or as lazyman states, get yourself a nice router with ADSL support, Inet sharing and Modem in one

My D-link DI-614+ supports RJ45 and Wireless costs $50.

I didn't' invest in a cable/adsl router because we have this usb thingy. There are plenty routers out there suitable for both cable and adsl, IF it's a regular adsl modem. If it's an usb modem, you need a different type of router, I've never even seen one, let alone seen one that's capable of both connection types.

I'm pushing my mum to switch to telenet, the yearcontract that binds us to skynet is almost at it's end so if we change to telenet, I'm getting a router asap

the reason why I want to switch to telenet is because in dispite of the fact that we are well within the 4.7 km range required to get adsl, our line is physically incapable of handling 3.3 Mbps so we are still stuck on 1.1Mbps.

That combined with the fact that the pc isn't A-OK ever since I installed this nf7 and maxtor sata hdd with new xp + sp1 install, makes things agonizingly slow atm. I think it's because the USB standard isn't on usb 2.0 but that's a different problem altogether
