Intel Core i7 920 and 965 XE CPU Review

In a few weeks you can find a brand new Intel CPU at your local hardware shop, it still carries the Core name but it is drastically different compared to their previous Core 2 units. The Core i7 has an onboard memory controller and hyperthreading is re-introduced. We compare the performance of the entry level 920 model as well as the high end 965 XE.

End of August Asus presented as one of the first their X58 mainboard in Berlin.

Mid October they send us a sample to play with. So let's take a look again at this board.

A detailed fotoshoot can already be found in our P6T presentation report, now we're going to take a look at the things that are new.

The retail box. Thing that spotted our eye immediately are the onboard SAS, 16+2 phase design and both SLI and Crossfire support.

On the rear we see the Overclock software advertised, as well as their overclock remote. We saw a quick demo of those at their press conference, but now we could play with them ourselves.

And here he is. Just after he booted you can see a little desktop screen. There is a possibility to install "widgets" so that you can use it as an informational screen.

With a + and a - button on the upper site you can raise the BCLK. And with the front buttons you can confirm or cancel your settings.
