Evaluation

After testing this card on overclocking performance, I really believe that my single stage unit was a little too weak to keep the temperatures below zero when increasing the voltage above 1.6v. However, considering these high temperatures, I think that the card performed quite well in terms of overclocking. 870/2100/1200 are good clocks for a single stage cooled card, but both the core and shader frequency are still far from what we achieved with the Galaxy 9600GT.

I'm not going to give up on this card, however, as I'm planning to use either dry ice or liquid nitrogen on the card and try to push the components of my setup just that little bit harder. From what I can see, I'd better chose for dry ice cooling, as this card also (just like the Galaxy we tested) cold bugs around -50°C.

Hopefully I'll be able to present you a decent 3DMark06 run for which I will need, sadly enough, a very expensive quad-core. 3DMark2001SE is also on the to-do list, which shouldn't be a biggie, knowing that the recent released E8600's do 6GHz quite easily.

Blind wishes you a good day, 'till the next time!
