Twintech 9600 GT Overclocked With Phase-Change Cooling

Overclocking/Overclocking Tests by massman @ 2008-09-09

We continue our hardware torture tests with the Twintech 9600 GT. Using a custom build phase-change unit we cooled the GPU and overclocked it to new heights. Can we break some world records? Read on to find out

We ran our battery of 3D benchmarks currently supported by HWBot.org, this includes 3Dmark2001SE, 3DMark03, 3DMark05, 3DMark06 and Aquamark 3. Not every benchmark reacts the same to overclocking of the video card; in order to see how much we gained with each benchmark we tested at different GPU clock speeds. For top scores we also overclocked the CPU to further increase the overall system score.

Not every benchmark will be stable at the same GPU speeds, so it’s a time consuming practice to find a balance between stability and speed with each benchmark. We used a phase change cooling on the GPU which gave us more time to tweak and test as using dry-ice or LN2 would reduce testing time a lot.

Below are our findings, under each score the configuration is: CPU Speed – GPU/Shader/Memory

To grab top spot in most benchmarks we will need to increase the GPU cooling as well as increase the CPU clocks too, still with an air cooled CPU and this Twintech 9600 GT we ranked 3 times in the TOP 3!
