Scythe Zipang 140mm CPU Cooler Review

Cooling/CPU Cooling by jmke @ 2008-07-23

The Scythe Zipang is top-down heatsink with a huge ~140mm fan on top. A series of 6 copper heat pipes make this heatsink capable of cooling down an Intel Quad Core CPU as the lowest noise levels. We put it to the test and compare its performance to 45 other popular CPU coolers.

A Closer Look

The Zipang features no less than 6 copper heat pipes which are quite long and are bend is such a way that they touch the main dissipation surface several times.

The large selection of aluminium fins are made to best benefit from the included 140mm fan, while there is provision for installing 120mm fans, the Zipang does not include the needed fan mounting clips.

When we flip the cooler upside down you can see that the copper heat pipes also touch the bottom side of the aluminium fins:

The copper base has a mirror finish and is very flat; there are 4 mounting holes visible here which are used to attach the different clips for the supported platforms.
