XFX Geforce 8500GT Fatal1ty Video Card Review

Videocards/VGA Reviews by geoffrey @ 2007-12-24

The XFX Fatal1ty series have recently not only been upgraded in the mainstream segment, since few weeks we have now Fatal1ty entry-level graphics cards. Aimed at the professional gaming market, could we have a Best Buy in our hands?

The Oblivion graphics engine can be very taxing for even the fastest hardware once you increase the level of detail. There is also a difference in performance compared running outside, in city area or inside a dungeon, the outside is most taxing for the graphics card, the town area is noticeably easier on the GPU while the dungeon is usually less taxing of all. We tested the heaviest environment with HDR enabled and in-game settings maxed out.

Again the XFX Fatal1ty takes the lead over the reference 8500GT, but like with previous game tests it just could not impress us with its performance. In the hardest situations it will always be tad faster, but if you're really looking for higher performance you should look for higher clocked video cards, we could improve our average frame rate with over 47% by using the 3 overclock-sliders in Rivatuner.

Good work, Geoff. The overclock seems to be worth it
