Samsung Digimax S700 Digital Camera Review

Others/Miscelleneous by SidneyWong @ 2007-08-03

The Samsung Digitmax S700 digital camera incorporates some of the features that are not common from the traditional camera makers such as Nikon and Canon. The Digimax S700 may satisfy most users looking for low cost, point and shoot family duties with maximum 7.2 MegaPixels resolution and readily available household AA battery.

Photo Sampling and Battery Life

Photo Sampling

It takes awhile for anyone to get use to new camera settings, if good photo is the outcome. Digimax S700 is designed for point & shoot with enough features/settings that will present very good result.

After browsing the features for better than one hour. The following sample shots were taken; please click on the image where applicable for enlarged view.

  • Macro in daylight
  • Dust using Pre-set mode and manual
  • Full zoom result in daylight
  • Flash without any light at night
  • Continous shots
  • Built-in template
  • Lens Distortion
  • Video in 640x320 30 fps

I inserted a 1GB SD card in before I took the shots and video below. Make sure you get a 1 or 2GB card at the time you order your camera.

Flash:

These photo give you an idea of the build-in flash capability:

7 continuous shots, note the 6th shot has taken a 2-second jump. The LCD screen blanks out when using continuous shot, you are totally "in the dark".

Battery life:

I found myself constantly replacing the two AA 1600 mAh Ni-MH rechargeable batteries during my 4-day test of the camera. So, it is good to carry extra batteries with you. At full charge, the battery icon shows 3-bar, within minutes it will go down to 2-bar where it stays a bit longer, say for about another 30 shots without flash and 15 with before it goes to 1-bar. Turn the camera off for a few minutes, restart and it jumps back to 2-bar, otherwise, low battery icon will show and within seconds the camera turn off automatically.

At the end this is what I could get out from the pair of AAs on average:

  • Without flash - 90
  • With flash - 30

    Total - 120 shots
