Need For Speed CarbonIn race games the frame rate remains at nearly the same level during the whole testrun which makes it easier for us to show the difference between each GPU. The Jetway/HIS HD 2900 XT is without doubt faster then the 8800GTS 320Mb and offered a fluent game experience during multiple laps. The race start is most stressful because there are multiple car models to render at close range and high detail with nice smoke effects.
Colin McRae DIRTIf NFS was stressful for the HD 2900 XT and 8800 GTS, Colin McRae DIRT is pure torture, at 1600x1200 the game was not playable when we enabled Anti Aliasing, so had to reduce the resolution to keep the frame rate up and deliver an enjoyable game play experience. The graphics engine is renders beautiful scenery and fully detailed car models, the end results is one slick looking game which is surprisingly more stressful than most first person shooters.
The 8800 GTS is slightly ahead of the HD 2900 XT in this benchmark, although you’d be hard pressed to notice the difference in-game. Overclocking the 2900 XT brings it on par with the 8800 GTS.
