Casetek V.Orpheus ATX Midi Case Review

Cases & PSU/Cases by jmke @ 2007-02-23

Casetek V.Orpheus is a midi-sized ATX case with a massive 220mm fan slapped on the side panel and a fully functional fan controller and temp readout in the front on a large LCD. All this can be had for a competitive price, so where the catch? We place a high end Core 2 system inside and compare its thermal/noise results with the competition.

Going back to the front panel you can find an easily removable 120mm fan holder.

Now instead of screwing a fan in place Casetek used a plug and play method which also helps to reduce vibration. The fan bracket has a rubber protection at each mounting hole, a plastic pin is pushed through them (and the fan bracket), the pin splits open at the end when pushed completely closed, fixing the fan into place. It’s a practical and easy installation method which works with all types of 120x120x25mm fans.

The rear 120mm fan features a similar bracket, although this one is made out of plastic. On the left side you can see the PCI bracket fixation method.

Some of the PCI fixation clips in “open” position:

The last internal fan location is near the top of the case, a 80mm bracket with 2 clips at each side can hold a 80x80x25mm fan:

Back to the outside I took removed the large 220mm fan from the side panel to see how it was powered, a small rheobus takes care of the regulating the fan speed:

Too much air flow restriction from all fan grills design; low cutting die cost. Otherwise ...... ?
