Introduction

Scythe is a company well known for their CPU coolers, they send us a product not related to cooling at all, but it?s worth a closer look nonetheless, the Kama Connect is a nifty little box which allows you to connect any SATA/PATA device to your PC using USB 2.0. Ideal for external hard drives and optical devices;

With an expected retail price of <$30 it?s not too expensive yet rivals that of the cheaper hard drive boxes, which do lack the Kama Connect?s flexibility.

There is not much to test or evaluate here, we used different hard drives, PATA and SATA on the device and those all popped up correctly in Windows 2000/XP without the need of any driver. For older Windows OS a driver is included.

The power adapter goes into a spare outlet and gives you a 4-pin 12v connector to play with, using a Y-splitter you can power both Kama Connect and your PATA hard drive, for the SATA models the splitter is not needed as it gets it power through the integrated connector. A small power button sits on the adapter?s power cable and as expected you need to push it in, in order to give your connect devices juice.
