Introduction

Today’s' videogames are getting more detailed by the day, demanding more and more video card power. Since the introduction of SLI we can have huge real-time render farms. But... there is only a small amount of people who are able to buy such setups. For most gamers it's better to stick with midrange cards since they still offer a better price/performance balance. Today we have two nice midrange cards from ATI and nVidia, the Powercolor X1800GTO and the MSI 7600GT.

Powercolor offers products in the X1800 family cards:

  • X1800XT512MB | 512MB GDDR3 | 16 pipes | 625/750
  • X1800XT256MB | 256MB GDDR3 | 16 pipes | 625/750
  • X1800XL256MB | 256MB GDDR3 | 16 pipes | 500/500
  • X1800GTO 256MB | 256MB GDDR3 | 12 pipes | 500/500

Based on the R520 core, the X1800GTO has only 12 out of total 16 pipes activated and clock speeds are reduced to 500/500, thus making it slowest of this quartet.
