AMD Athlon FX-57 Overclocking - Dry Ice vs Phase Change Cooling

Overclocking/Overclocking Tests by geoffrey @ 2006-06-13

So what do you do a warm pre-summer day in June? Get out the dry ice of course. I already had a modified phase change cooling but was interested to see what a few blocks of ice could accomplish.

Putting the FX on Ice - First Try

Of course I could not just put these dry ice blocks on the CPU so I installed a copper tube with large base:

After applying all the isolation material where are good to go:

I poured some ethanol into the tube, placed a thermal probe to get an idea of the temps and dropped a few dry ice blocks inside

Base temperatures well below zero:

Causing ice to form on the outside of the not covered copper tube:

Although with the dry ice the CPU was running cooler the overclocking result was not very good 3602Mhz
