CPU by piotke @ 2006-06-22

The Pentium Mobile line of processors has become quite popular with hardware enthusiasts as they offer a better performance per Mhz than their desktop companions. We compare Intel?s Core Duo for mobiles to their Pentium M, overclocking them on a desktop system they go head to head.

Using a mid-range VGA card (Geforce 7600GT) we can achieve some respectable scores in 3DMark with the Yonah clocked to 3.2Ghz, however the difference with the lower clocked Dothan is not very big, these benchmarks are mostly GPU bound.

Photoshop benchmarks

Driverheaven made this pretty nifty PhotoShop Benchmark which is basically a collection of actions performed on an image and the time measured for each operation.

Madshrimps (c)

Total time (lower is better):
Dothan @ 1,73 GHz: 337,3 seconds
Dothan @ 2,6 GHz: 245,6 seconds
Yonah @ 2,16 Ghz: 264,7 seconds
Yonah @ 2,6 GHz: 228,2 seconds
Yonah @ 3,2 Ghz: 196,3 seconds

The Yonah is remarkably faster, but the differences are smaller than in the synthetic benchmarks
