Double Damage - 2-in-1 Case Mod

Modding/Case Mods by Bernd @ 2006-02-20

What?s better than one PC? Two of course! When Bernd decided to build a dual CPU system he took a rather unique approach. Rather than strapping 2 CPU?s to one motherboard or using one of the latest Dual Core offerings from AMD/Intel he has been working on a case which can house 2 systems nicely, with good cooling and easy functionality through one keyboard/mouse and monitor.

What’s better than one PC? Two of course! When Bernd, known online as ChroMage, decided to build a dual CPU system he took a rather unique approach. Rather than strapping 2 CPU’s to one motherboard or using one of the latest Dual Core offerings from AMD/Intel he has been working on a case which can house 2 systems nicely, with good cooling and easy functionality through one keyboard/mouse and monitor.

Bernd Mouchaers is a 19 year old Electro-Mechanica student; The last 5 years he has been mostly into gaming, but recently he has been bitten by the modding virus.

Before I got started hacking away I started up SolidWorks, a CAD program to visualize the idea I had:

This is the outside of the case; it doesn’t look too special from this angle, only a bit larger than your average PC case:

Here you see why the case is larger, it will house 2 systems, one mounted as regular on the motherboard panel, the other will be attached to the left door

Beside the motherboard I will also attach a hard drive rack and enough fans to keep everything running cool

On the inside another hard drive rack will be put in the more usual place

Although functionality is the main purpose of this case, there’s still room for an aesthetical bit. A small window with my nicknamed engraved will be lit up when I power on the machines.
