CoolJag SFO-H Copper A64 Heatsinks Review

Cooling/CPU Cooling by SidneyWong @ 2005-08-10

When all heatsinks are becoming vertical giants with heatpipes and minimum 120mm fan, you would think heatsink will be the size of your case to keep your processor running smoothly. Cooljag has been manufacturing heatsinks for quite sometime, perhaps longer than many of the giant builders we have come to know recently. SFO-H is the name, with all copper in a ?normal size? that won?t require motherboard removal, and a surprising small 70mm fan. Can it perform is the question... Shall we find out?

Conclusion

Overclocking processor demands for good cooling; good cooling creates 3rd party high performance heatsink and large fan follows by water cooling and vapor chill. Glory pushes for even higher clock speed from stock default. IT guys seldom if not ever overclock; or they will lose their jobs from system crashes and high electric bills (overhead expense). So what, I overclock anyway with common sense I say.

This CoolJag SFO-H IS a performer in a traditional look and certainly will fool a few. With the tower type heatsink these days, which really are designed for BTX format in a smaller scale has become the overclockers' delight from the size prospective. Certainly, manufacturing cost comes down in using heatpipes which are purchased complete item, stamped alum fins from sheet stock is very economical.

Both CoolJag and JMC Products are OEM suppliers; they must content with large builders requirements and specifications in the areas of shipping complete system, assembly cost, and replacement inventory to name a few. With the current AMD processors, we could now go back a few years in thermal loss. If your Venice or Winchester or San Diego is not overclocking well at or below 1.6 Volt; try getting another processor instead because the chances in getting a nice overclocker are pretty high.

Yes, here is an option for those looking for the traditional look; ease of installation with no motherboard compatibility or case constraint. Both of the heatsinks tested here have a retail price of ~US$25.

Pros

  • Good performance
  • Reasonable price point
  • Low profile for any form factor

    Cons

  • A bit noisy for the sensitive in hearing

I like to thank CoolJag USA to send in the review sample.
