The TCCD-pire Strikes Back? Athlon 64 S754 Memory Roundup

Memory by jmke @ 2004-11-30

We compared 5 different Samsung TCCD powered memory modules, discovering some surprising performance differences between them. To give these new TCCD chips a worthy competitor we also included results from Winbond BH-6 running with high VDIMM. How do they fair on an A64 S754 platform? Read on to find out

A-DATA PC4800

A-DATA has some very highly rated memory modules in their product gamma, the DDR600 sticks below are sold separately and therefore not necessary rated at those speeds when 2 modules are used.

As with the PDP sticks, the heat spreaders are colorful and will brighten up the inside of your system.

PCB design

This one is the ugly ducking in our line-up, although the dimensions of the PCB make me believe A-DATA followed JEDEC reference, I see more transistors on there, which strangely enough correspond with those on the Brain Power PCB. Taking a closer look at the PCB did not really clear things up, as the only reading I could spot was D68004H in one corner of the module.

Overclocking Experience

When I started testing at tight timings the modules behaved identical to the Brain Power “powered” modules. But when I select CL2.5 these sticks kept on passing Memtest86+ at higher and higher speeds. Reaching a stable speed of 272Mhz. Very impressive!

Performance with 2 modules was very good and it did not disappoint in the “1 stick” category either. 295Mhz is very close to their rated speed (again, on an Intel setup)

These A-DATA made a very remarkable appearance, delivering speeds I did not see before when using 2 modules!
